Ontario Spring Cleaning Checklist 2026
Ontario's heating season — roughly November through April — creates a specific set of post-winter cleaning needs that differ from other climates. Months of closed windows, forced-air heating (which circulates dust and dries out surfaces), salt tracked in from winter roads, and accumulated indoor cooking smells all call for a thorough spring clean once the windows can finally open.
Whole-Home Priority Tasks
- Open all windows for a full ventilation of winter-accumulated air
- Replace HVAC filter — it's been running continuously for months
- Clean all window sills of winter dust and condensation residue
- Wash window glass inside and out (the first dry spring day)
- Wipe all baseboards and door frames — winter dust settles heavily on horizontal surfaces
- Vacuum all upholstered furniture and wash any removable covers
Kitchen
- Clean fridge interior and check for expired items
- Deep clean oven — winter baking leaves significant buildup
- Clean range hood filter — grease accumulates all winter
- Wipe all cabinet fronts — grease and cooking residue
Bathrooms
- Scrub grout — winter humidity cycling stresses bathroom grout
- Replace any caulking that has mould or has pulled away
- Clean exhaust fan
Entrance and Mud Room
- Deep clean floors — salt and sand tracked in all winter. Sweep and scrub, then mop
- Wipe door handles and light switches
- Launder or dry-clean winter coats and blankets before storage
Outdoor Areas (once frost is gone)
- Sweep and wash patios and decks
- Clean outdoor furniture before first use
- Wash exterior windows
