Deep Cleaning the Master Bedroom
The master bedroom receives some of the most intense daily occupancy of any room in an Ontario home while often receiving some of the least thorough cleaning. The combination of sleep shedding (humans shed significant skin cells during sleep), clothing storage (closets are rarely cleaned), and the under-bed space (one of the most neglected cleaning areas in most homes) makes the master bedroom worth periodic thorough attention beyond a standard clean.
Mattress Care
Vacuum the mattress quarterly — a handheld vacuum with an upholstery attachment removes the dust, skin cells, and dust mite colonies that accumulate in the mattress surface. If the mattress has a removable cover, wash it every 2–3 months. Rotate or flip the mattress (if flippable) twice yearly to distribute wear. A mattress protector keeps the mattress itself cleaner between these intervals.
Under the Bed
The space under the bed is one of the highest dust-accumulating areas in Ontario homes — particularly if the mattress sits low and airflow under the bed is limited. Pull the bed out quarterly (annually at minimum) and vacuum and mop underneath. The under-bed space in many homes collects years of accumulated dust in a significant mat — once cleaned thoroughly, subsequent maintenance is manageable.
Closets and Storage
Closets rarely receive cleaning beyond the occasional reorganization. A closet deep clean involves: removing all contents, wiping all shelves and rod supports, vacuuming the floor and corners (where dust accumulates in the airflow dead zones), and replacing contents in organized groupings. Once done, maintaining the cleaned closet is considerably easier than the initial restoration.
Windows and Curtains
Bedroom curtains or blinds collect dust that circulates in the room during sleep. Wash curtains seasonally (most machine-wash on delicate), or vacuum with an upholstery attachment between washes. Wipe blinds monthly during standard cleaning.
