Coordinating Your Clean With Your Moving Company
One of the most common moving mistakes in Ontario is booking cleaning and movers on the same day without thinking through the sequence. Here's how to coordinate both for a smooth transition.
The Right Sequence for Move-Outs
- Movers first: All furniture and boxes leave the home before cleaners arrive. An empty home is dramatically easier to clean — cleaners can reach every baseboard, floor edge, and closet corner
- Clean after: Once the home is empty, book your move-out clean. This is what your landlord or buyer will inspect
- Timing: If movers finish by noon, cleaners can start in the early afternoon. Many Ontario cleaning services offer same-day or next-day availability for move-outs
The Right Sequence for Move-Ins
- Clean first: Book your move-in clean before the movers bring anything in. An empty home gets a far more thorough clean — inside all cabinets, behind all appliances, every floor edge
- Movers second: Once the clean is complete and dried, bring your furniture and boxes in
What to Tell Each Service
- Give your cleaner the expected completion time from the movers
- Give your movers the expected end time of the clean at the new place
- Build in a 1–2 hour buffer for both sides — moves and cleans both run long
