Seasonal Cleaning Schedule for Ontario Homeowners
Ontario's four distinct seasons — with genuine winters that involve road salt, humidity fluctuations, and heating systems running hard — create cleaning and maintenance tasks that are specific to the climate in ways that don't apply to milder Canadian provinces. A seasonal cleaning schedule addresses these needs systematically.
Spring (March–May)
- Deep clean floors throughout — remove salt and sand tracked in over winter
- Wash windows inside and out (wait until overnight temperatures are consistently above 5°C)
- Clean window screens after removing storm windows
- Wipe down baseboards and clean behind furniture moved during winter
- Clean the garage floor — salt residue is concrete-damaging if left
- Replace furnace filter after a full winter of operation
- Clean range hood filters
- Deep clean the fridge
Summer (June–August)
- Clean outdoor furniture and decks before the season begins
- Clean BBQ grill thoroughly
- Wipe down air conditioning units or clean portable AC filters
- Wash patio doors and exterior-facing windows
Fall (September–November)
- Clean gutters after leaves have fallen
- Wash and store outdoor furniture and cushions
- Clean the dryer vent (lint accumulation is a fire hazard — once yearly minimum)
- Deep clean oven before the winter cooking season
- Replace furnace filter before heating season begins
- Clean and inspect window weatherstripping and door seals
Winter (December–February)
- Place quality mats at all entry doors to capture salt and sand
- Increase floor cleaning frequency — salt tracked in from boots damages hardwood and tile over time
- Clean humidifier if using one (monthly during operation)
- Wipe down radiators or baseboard heaters before turning on for the season
