Cleaning a Townhome vs. Condo in Ontario
Townhomes and condos are both common in Ontario's housing market — particularly in the GTA and 905 communities — but they have meaningful differences that affect how professional cleaning works.
Townhomes: Key Differences
- Multiple floors: Most Ontario townhomes are 2–3 storeys with interior stairs — this adds cleaning time (stairs are labour-intensive) and complexity compared to a single-floor condo
- Entry vestibule and garage: Townhomes typically have a private entry with a vestibule or foyer and sometimes a garage — areas that condos don't have, and areas that accumulate entry debris faster
- Outdoor space: Townhomes often have a small private yard, patio, or terrace — outdoor areas are generally outside standard cleaning scope but adjacent tracking is an issue
- Slightly larger floor plans: GTA townhomes typically range from 1,100–1,600 sq ft; GTA condos from 450–900 sq ft — the townhome takes longer and costs more to clean
Condos: Key Differences
- Building access: Visitor parking, elevator booking, and concierge coordination — considerations that don't apply to townhomes
- Single floor: Most condos are single floor — faster to clean, no stairs, but potentially more compact and higher-density furnishing per square foot
- HVAC: Central building HVAC systems mean the cleaner can't control temperature in the unit during the clean — a consideration in extreme heat or cold
