What Professional Cleaners Typically Don't Clean
Ontario homeowners sometimes have cleaning visits that don't meet expectations — not because the cleaner did poor work, but because the scope of a standard cleaning service doesn't include everything the client assumed. Understanding what's typically in and out of scope prevents disappointment.
Usually Not Included in a Standard Clean
- Exterior windows: Standard cleaning includes interior window cleaning (sills, frames, glass from the inside). Exterior window cleaning — particularly above the ground floor — is a separate service requiring different equipment and access
- Inside appliances: Oven interior, fridge interior, dishwasher interior are typically not included in a standard clean. They require significantly more time and are offered as add-ons
- Walls: Spot-cleaning scuffs and marks on walls is sometimes included; full wall washing is not standard
- Garage: Garages are a separate scope — concrete floors, shelving, and the general disorder of a garage are not part of a home interior clean
- Organizing and decluttering: Cleaners clean surfaces — they don't organize, sort through belongings, or declutter. A pre-clean declutter by the homeowner is expected
- Laundry: Washing, drying, or folding laundry is not standard cleaning scope
- Biohazard cleanup: Bodily fluids, sharps, or other biohazard materials require specialized services
