Your First Professional Cleaning in Ontario — What to Expect
Booking a professional cleaning service for the first time comes with reasonable questions: What do I need to do before they arrive? What will they actually clean? How do I give feedback? Here's a clear walkthrough of what the first experience looks like with a professional service.
Before the Cleaner Arrives
- Tidy, don't clean: Your job is to get clutter off surfaces and floors so the cleaner can actually clean them — put away dishes, clear counters, pick clothes off floors. You do not need to pre-clean anything
- Secure pets: Either arrange for pets to be out of the home, or keep them in a room the cleaner doesn't need to access. Loose pets slow cleaning significantly and can be a safety issue
- Provide access: Make sure access instructions are clear — door code, buzzer, key location, parking. The cleaner should be able to arrive and start without a lengthy back-and-forth
- Prioritize in advance: If there are specific areas you want the cleaner to focus on — the master bathroom, the inside of the oven — communicate this at booking, not at the door
What Happens During the Clean
A professional cleaner works systematically through the home: typically starting at the top (bedrooms) and working down to the main floor and kitchen last, or starting with bathrooms and kitchen (the most time-intensive rooms) first. They bring all supplies. You don't need to be home, but you can be if you prefer.
After the Clean
Walk through the home within a few hours. If something wasn't done to standard, contact the service that day — not a week later. A professional service will make it right on the next visit or offer a reclean of the affected area.
