How Often Should Your Home Be Cleaned?
The right cleaning frequency for an Ontario home depends on household size, lifestyle, pets, and budget — there's no universal answer. This guide walks through the decision factors.
Weekly Cleaning
Best for: Homes with young children (toddlers who make consistent mess), households with multiple pets (especially shedding dogs), homes where entertaining is frequent, and high-traffic homes with 4+ people. Weekly cleaning keeps the home consistently presentable and prevents the accumulation that makes bi-weekly sessions feel rushed.
Bi-Weekly (Every 2 Weeks)
Best for: The majority of Ontario households — 2–4 person households with moderate activity and one or two pets. Bi-weekly cleaning is the most common schedule for professional cleaning services in the GTA and is a good balance between cost and cleanliness for most household types. The home gets to "baseline" every two weeks and doesn't typically accumulate to the point of feeling dirty in between.
Monthly
Best for: Single or two-person households with low activity, households that clean regularly on their own between professional visits (using the professional visit for the tasks they find difficult — bathrooms, kitchen deep zones), and households on tighter budgets. Monthly is also common for cottages and second properties that see intermittent use.
One-Time / Seasonal
Best for: Households that maintain their own home regularly but want a professional deep clean twice a year (typically spring and fall) — the Ontario equivalent of a seasonal reset. Also the right choice for move-in, move-out, post-renovation, and post-event cleaning.
