Tips for First-Time Cleaning Service Clients in Ontario
If you've never used a professional cleaning service before, the first experience can feel uncertain — you're letting strangers into your home, you don't know what to expect, and you're not sure how to prepare or what to say if something isn't right. Here's a practical guide for first-time Ontario cleaning clients.
Before the Cleaning
- Declutter surfaces: A cleaning service cleans surfaces — not organizes them. If countertops, tabletops, and floors are covered with items, the cleaning will be significantly less thorough than a cleared space allows. A 15-minute pre-clean declutter makes a material difference in results
- Communicate special requirements: If you have specific products you want used (or don't want used), areas to avoid (a room with fragile items), or specific priorities (the oven interior, the bathroom grout), communicate these when booking or in a note left for the cleaner
- Arrange access: Decide how the cleaner will access your home — you'll be there to let them in, or you'll provide a key/lockbox code
During the Cleaning
You don't need to be home. Most Ontario professional cleaning clients leave their home for the duration of the clean and return to a finished space. If you prefer to be home, stay out of the areas being cleaned to allow the cleaner to work efficiently.
Giving Feedback
If something wasn't cleaned to your satisfaction after your first visit, say so — ideally within 24 hours of the clean. Reputable Ontario cleaning services will return to address missed areas at no charge. Feedback after the first visit helps establish expectations for every subsequent visit.
