Cobwebs, dust accumulation on ceiling fan blades, high window ledges, and pot lights set into ceilings two storeys above the floor all require thoughtful approach — combining the right tools with safe work practices.
Tools That Make the Difference
- Extension dusters: Microfiber dusters on telescoping poles (reaching 10–15 feet) address cobwebs in ceiling corners, ceiling fan blades, and high shelving without climbing
- Extension vacuum attachments: Many vacuum manufacturers offer extension wands that work with standard hose connections — essential for vacuuming ceiling vents and high ledges
- Long-handle window squeegees: For high windows and skylights reachable from inside, a squeegee on an extension handle with a microfiber applicator makes window cleaning manageable without ladders
Safe Ladder Use
For surfaces that genuinely require a ladder: use a proper A-frame ladder, never a step stool, for heights above 6 feet. Ensure the ladder is set on a firm, non-slip surface. Never work alone on a ladder for cleaning tasks — have someone present. Do not reach or lean sideways from a ladder; move the ladder to be directly below the area being cleaned.
When to Call Professionals
Any cleaning task that requires a ladder in a stairwell, on uneven terrain, or reaching heights above 10–12 feet is better handled by a professional cleaning company with the right equipment and safety training.
