Condo Rules for Professional Cleaner Access in Ontario
Scheduling professional cleaning in an Ontario condominium involves navigating building rules that don't apply to freehold homes. Understanding these logistics in advance prevents frustrating delays and helps cleaning visits go smoothly.
Elevator Booking
Most Ontario condo buildings with multiple elevator banks require that elevator bookings be made in advance for service providers, movers, and deliveries that involve taking carts, equipment, or large items through the lobby. Your cleaning company's equipment (mop buckets, vacuum, supply bags) typically qualifies. Contact your property management office to understand the booking process — some buildings require 24–48 hours advance notice; others are more flexible. There's often no charge for a service elevator booking.
Visitor Parking
If your cleaner drives to your building, confirm whether visitor parking is available, whether it has a time limit, and whether a parking pass needs to be arranged. In buildings with limited visitor parking, your cleaner may need to street park — let them know in advance so they can plan accordingly.
Key Fob and Access
Most Ontario condo owners provide their cleaner with a spare key fob for building access, particularly for recurring clients. Some buildings track fob access — this is worth knowing if privacy is a concern. If you don't want to provide a fob, you'll need to be present or meet the cleaner in the lobby. Communicate key access arrangements clearly before the first appointment.
Noise Considerations
Vacuuming and cleaning equipment generates noise. Most Ontario condo buildings have quiet hour rules (typically 11pm–8am or similar). Daytime cleaning is always within the acceptable window, but confirm if you're ever scheduling a very early morning clean.
