Cleaning After a Party or Event
Post-party cleaning is one of the most reliably unpleasant household tasks — the gap between the energy of a successful event and the cleanup required afterward is real, and knowing how to approach it efficiently makes a significant difference. The key is knowing what needs to happen immediately and what can wait.
Immediate (Same Night)
- Food: Remove all perishable food from counters, tables, and surfaces — dishes and platters left out overnight with food residue attract pests and are significantly harder to clean the next day
- Spills: Blot any wine, juice, or liquid spills on carpet or upholstery immediately — the longer they sit, the deeper they set. Use cold water for most spills; enzymatic cleaner for protein-based spills
- Outdoor items: Bring outdoor furniture, cushions, and décor inside if weather threatens
Next Morning
- Collect and wash all dishes, glasses, and serving items
- Wipe all surfaces — kitchen counters, tables, bar areas
- Sweep or vacuum floors — the foot traffic from a party dramatically increases the debris on floors
- Empty all bins (party waste fills bins quickly)
Post-Event Deep Clean
For larger events, a professional post-event clean addresses: the kitchen, all bathroom surfaces, floor mopping throughout, and the thorough wipe-down of all surfaces. This typically costs $188–$348 for a standard Ontario home depending on size. Ontario HST (13%) applies.
