Spring Cleaning Checklist for Ontario Homes — 2027
Ontario winters are hard on homes — months of closed windows, running furnaces, road salt tracked in on boots, and indoor air that recirculates endlessly. Spring cleaning in Ontario isn't just about tidiness; it's about undoing the specific effects of a Great Lakes winter on your home's surfaces, air quality, and systems.
Kitchen
- Deep clean oven interior and range hood filter (replace filter if grease-soaked)
- Clean refrigerator coils (vacuum lint and dust from the back or underside)
- Empty and wipe down all cabinets and pantry shelves
- Clean dishwasher filter and run a cleaning cycle
- Descale the kettle and coffee maker (white vinegar or citric acid)
Bathrooms
- Clean exhaust fan grille and interior (after turning off circuit breaker)
- Re-caulk tub and shower if caulk shows mould or cracking
- Deep scrub tile grout with grout cleaner or hydrogen peroxide
- Clean showerhead by soaking in white vinegar overnight to remove mineral buildup
Windows and Doors
- Clean all windows inside and out (especially south-facing windows that have mineral deposits from winter condensation)
- Wash window screens
- Wipe door frames and thresholds where road salt is tracked in
HVAC and Air Quality
- Replace furnace filter — the end of heating season is the standard filter replacement point
- Book an HVAC duct cleaning if it's been 3+ years
- Vacuum heating vents and registers
Basement and Storage
- Inspect for moisture and mould after winter (especially in Ontario homes with basement water penetration issues)
- Clear out seasonal items (winter gear, holiday decorations) and donate or discard what isn't needed
