Ontario Cleaning Service Cancellation Policies
Recurring professional cleaning clients in Ontario eventually need to cancel or reschedule — vacations, illness, contractors in the house, or life changes. Here's what to understand about how professional cleaning cancellation policies typically work.
Standard Cancellation Notice Periods
Most professional cleaning services in Ontario require 24–48 hours advance notice for cancellation or rescheduling of a confirmed appointment. The reason: cleaning teams are scheduled in advance, and a same-day or last-minute cancellation leaves the team without work they were scheduled for.
- 48-hour notice: The most common policy, and the standard that's straightforward to meet for most planned changes (vacation, contractor visit)
- 24-hour notice: Some services allow this, but it's tighter — especially for Monday morning appointments, where 24 hours back is the weekend
- Same-day cancellation: Almost universally subject to a fee — typically 50% of the scheduled service cost
Illness and Emergency Exceptions
Reputable services typically have an accommodation policy for genuine illness and emergencies — if a household member is sick, most services will waive the cancellation fee for same-day or short-notice cancellation on a case-by-case basis, particularly for long-term recurring clients. Communicate as early as possible and explain the situation — an accommodation is much more likely if you contact the service before the team is in transit.
Long-Term Plan Changes
Switching from bi-weekly to monthly, pausing service for a month, or reducing service frequency are all normal recurring service changes. Most services accommodate these changes with reasonable notice — typically one billing cycle. Terminating recurring service entirely generally requires notice equal to one scheduled appointment ahead.
