What to Do When You Skip a Cleaning Visit
Ontario cleaning clients occasionally need to skip a scheduled visit — vacation, illness, a sensitive period at home, or just a busy stretch. Handling this well preserves your cleaning relationship and prevents the accumulated cleaning burden from becoming overwhelming.
Give Notice Early
Most Ontario cleaning services ask for 24–48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule without a cancellation fee. Some services have a 48-hour window, others 24 — check your service agreement. When in doubt, more notice is always better and is appreciated by professional cleaners who need to plan their schedules.
What Accumulates While You Skip
A two-week gap between cleans produces roughly twice the normal accumulation — dust on surfaces, floor debris, bathroom soap scum, kitchen grease. The first clean back from a skip typically takes somewhat longer than a standard visit, particularly in bathrooms and kitchens. Some Ontario cleaning services charge a slightly higher rate for the first visit back after a long gap — this is standard and reflects the additional work required to restore baseline.
Getting Back on Schedule
After a single skipped visit, simply resuming your normal schedule is the right approach. If you've been away for more than a month, consider booking a deep clean to reset the home before resuming your regular recurring schedule — it's more effective than having your regular cleaner deal with weeks of accumulation on a standard-time visit.
