If you live in an Ontario condominium and want to book a professional cleaning service, there are building-specific rules that affect how the cleaner accesses your unit, when they can work, and how they dispose of waste. Understanding these rules before booking prevents surprises.
Elevator Access
Most Ontario high-rise condos require a service elevator booking for any service involving large equipment or significant foot traffic. A cleaning team arriving with supplies bags typically does not require a formal elevator booking — they use the passenger elevator. However, some buildings require a booking for any contractor. Check with your property management before the cleaning day if you're in a high-traffic building with elevator booking requirements.
Service Hours
Many Ontario condo corporations restrict service worker hours to prevent noise impact on neighbours — typical restrictions are 8am–5pm Monday to Friday, with no service workers permitted on weekends or statutory holidays. If you prefer a Saturday cleaning, verify with your property management whether this is permitted. Some buildings are flexible; others strictly enforce daytime weekday restrictions.
Waste Disposal
Professional cleaning services typically collect waste (garbage bags, used cleaning materials) in bags that you take out to your building's waste room. If the cleaning team is dealing with a large amount of cleaning material (move-out clean), confirm whether your building requires waste to be brought to the building's waste area during the cleaning visit or with the regular waste schedule.
Access Notification
Some condo corporations and property managers require notification before service workers access the building — particularly in buildings with strict security protocols. If you're a renter, check whether your lease requires landlord notification for service workers accessing the unit.
